Community Engagement

The coalition’s most recent community engagement involved focus groups, forums and surveys. Our engagement has advanced into educating the community by providing training for health professionals, access to information, and oral health resources for providers, parents/caretakers, policy makers, community-based organizations, health educators and school nurses. Through this network, the coalition can be the voice for improved oral health status for all children in the District of Columbia.

Upcoming Provider Education and Training Sessions

Children’s National Health System: TBD

The education and training sessions will focus on the Smiles for Life Curriculum, the nation’s only comprehensive oral health curriculum consisting of eight modules (only two of the eight modules will be used for the training).

As of October 1, 2013 primary care providers in the District of Columbia are able to bill for fluoride varnish application up to 4 times a year for children up to age three who are insured by DC Medicaid (December 1, 2013 for DC Medicaid MCOs). Primary care providers and their clinical staff are welcomed to attend one of our training sessions. Only trained providers will be eligible for reimbursement.
